Project 2: Cutting Line

Drawing inspiration from Sol LeWitt's conceptual pieces, as well as other forms of visual and musical scores and compositions, this project features instructions to create an artwork and my own interpretation of these guidelines.

Process & Reflection:

For my composition, I chose to use photo paper as it is more durable than matte paper and provides better structural support for the various components I taped together.

Initially, I planned for the cutout pieces to be fully within the bounds of the images I created. However, once I lined up the laser incorrectly, I decided to experiment with both gaps and extra material. While, in this context, staying within the image bounds might have been preferrable aesthetically, the outcome of my project demonstrated the range of creative flexibility within the given constraints. Additionally, it led me to consider scenarios where cutting and pasting outside of the lines could enhance a composition.
